IAPF Evening Seminar
‘Tax Proposal Debate’
The issue of tax relief on pension contributions has been subject to much debate over the last 18 months. The Government recently confirmed, in the National Pensions Framework, its intention to apply a standard rate of relief of 33% to all employee contributions. We will hear from two economists who have been vocal with very differing views on this issue.
The event will commence with a short overview from Sinead Pentony, Head of Policy at TASC on their pension proposals. TASC, a progressive think tank dedicated to combating Ireland’s high level of economic inequality has been working with the TCD Pension Policy Research Group to develop an alternative system of pension provision. Jerry Moriarty, Director of Policy at the IAPF will then give an overview of IAPF policy.
Jim Stewart of the TCD Pension Policy Research Group and Moore McDowell an independent consultant economist associated with UCD will then debate the issue of tax relief and outline their views on this issue. The debate will be chaired by Paul Kenny, the Pensions Ombudsman and will include time for views and questions from the attendees.
