DC investment is evolving from choosing funds to make available to members to devising an appropriate investment strategy for the scheme. With questions over how much choice members should have and a growing realisation of the importance of having a robust default strategy in place, this event will examine the dilemma faced by DC trustees in getting this right. It will examine new styles of strategy such as target date funds and white labelling as potential solutions and should benefit all trustees who are grappling with these issues.
James Kavanagh has over twenty years experience in providing pensions consultancy to individuals, corporates, semi-state, state bodies and trustees having joined Towers Watson in 2006 from Ernst & Young.
James is currently Chair of the DC Committee for the Irish Association of Pension Funds (IAPF) and a Council Member of the Retirement Planning Council of Ireland (RPCI). James is a regular columnist in Irish business newspapers and has lectured in Dublin City University (DCU), where he is currently pursuing a Doctorate on a part-time basis.
Mr. Hutchins joined AllianceBernstein in 2008 after 2 years at UBS Investment Bank and prior to that, 13 years at Mercer. Mr Hutchins is responsible for Defined Contribution research and investment design for pension schemes in the UK and Ireland, researching and delivering effective default asset allocation strategies and retirement income guarantees. During his time at UBS he was responsible for devising and delivering innovative capital markets risk management solutions for pension schemes. At Mercer he was a European Principal and Scheme Actuary providing Trustee and Corporate advice to a range of UK pension funds and their sponsors. Mr. Hutchins has a B.Sc. in Mathematics and Postgraduate Certificate in Education from the University of Bristol as well as being a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries. Location: London
Samantha has overall responsibility for the provision of investment management services for IFG Corporate Pensions and distribution arrangements with third party investment managers. Samantha previously founded Pensco, a pensions consultancy company to the occupational company pensions scheme market, which was acquired by IFG Group in 2008.
Prior to founding Pensco, Samantha worked for Fexco as a Consultant and was Director of the International Financial Services Institute in the National College of Ireland, where she was responsible for establishing a range of finance programmes, including a MA in Finance. Samantha has also held other senior roles with KBC Asset Management and Ulster Bank Investment Managers.
Samantha holds a first class honours degree in commerce from UCD and graduated first in Ireland in the ACCA exams. Samantha is also a chartered CFA holder.
