There have been many proposals put forward in recent years on how to solve the pensions issues facing Ireland. One in particular has suggested taking tax incentives away from the private pension system and using the money saved to increase the State pension. As part of its Green Paper response the IAPF commissioned Life Strategies to carry out an analysis of the system of tax incentive and this proposal. This is the first time that a serious economic analysis of such proposals has been undertaken and the results are very interesting.
On June 11th the IAPF will launch the report which also examines the true benefit to taxpayers of the tax relief received on pension contributions taking into account the tax they are likely to pay on their pension in retirement.
