The Search for Diversity – Innovation in Irish Balanced Funds
Recent market turmoil and the knock on impact on Irish pension funds raises the question - how diversified are our investments? At IAPF events over the last number of years we have discussed alternative investments which may provide additional diversification for pension funds, however these have been mainly perceived as only available to large segregated Defined Benefit schemes. Innovations in unitised funds in Ireland now make these options available to smaller Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution schemes either within the traditional managed fund or as stand alone funds. The next IAPF evening seminar on investments features two experienced industry experts who will update Trustees and other IAPF members on developments.
Ronan Smith, Director of Ronan Smith Independent Consulting Limited, will consider the development of asset allocation in Irish balanced funds in the past and what approach to diversification pension funds might consider now. Meanwhile, Stephen Ryan, Senior Investment Consultant at Mercer, will look at the diversified assets options now available in Ireland, the risks and benefits of such funds and likely future developments in this area.
