IAPF AGM and Council changes

The 2017 IAPF AGM took place on Wednesday 26 April. Incoming Chairperson Peter Fahy, thanked outgoing Chairperson Jim Foley for all the achievements over his two year tenure. We also welcomed two new Council members, Ann Prendergast (State Street Global Advisors) and Amanda King (Kerry Group). The AGM was followed by an engaging debate on Passive versus Active Management, hosted by New Ireland. Presentations are available here.

Pensions Authority - Compliance Alert

The Pensions Authority issued a Compliance Alert reminding Trustees that they must sign each Trustee Annual Report (TAR) themselves and not delegate this task. See the full alert here.

Pension Related Tax Payments to Revenue

Revenue has introduced a new online payment facility for certain taxes, including the pension taxes which are not chargeable under Schedule E (PAYE). The existing EFT (Electronic Fund Transfer) has been discontinued. Therefore all future payments should be made online through ROS (Revenue Online Service). Please follow this link for their correspondence to the IAPF. The eBrief mentioned therein can be accessed here.

PTP (Pension Trustee Practitioner) Bursaries

Three full scholarships, valued at €880 each, are being offered by the IAPF and the Corporate Governance Association of Ireland (CGAI) for LIA’s Professional Certification in DC Pensions Scheme Trusteeship. There are three bursaries available to existing or prospective Lay Trustees of DC Occupational Pension Schemes, which will enable them to become qualified as PTPs. The course is run by LIA’s education partner, the Institute of Banking, a recognised college of University College Dublin (UCD). Details of how to apply are available here or visit the LIA stand at the IAPF Annual DC Conference on Thursday 11 May.

Initial, or Essential, training should first take place within six months of appointment for new trustees and within two years for existing trustees. Then Refresher training must be repeated every two years. The IAPF offer comprehensive education for trustees and our next Trustee Training Essentials half-day course on 1 June at Chartered Accountants House. For more details and to book, see our website.
