Defined Benefit Survey 2009IAPF07.10.2009The purpose of this survey was to understand current thinking and the various approaches being taken by companies in addressing and managing the future of their Defined Benefit pension plans and to help IAPF members understand what other plans are doing. The results of the survey indicate that the number of Defined Benefit schemes closed to new members is likely to double from 35% two years ago to 70% in the near future. The survey also highlights that 20% of schemes are considering removing future accrual in their main DB plan. Other measures that schemes are considering implementing include restricting pensionable salary (29%), capping or reducing pension increases (35%) and increasing member contributions (34%).Download this publication
