IAPF Spring 2018 Irish Pensions Magazine
Chairperson's Message IRISH PENSIONS MAGAZINE | SPRING 2018 | 5 We look forward to examining the Roadmap in greater detail and engaging with the various Government departments, agencies and working groups to ensure it is implemented and we can work towards our goal of ensuring people can have pensions that are secure, fair and simple. It is clear that there will be a lot of work taking place in different areas over the coming months and years. We very much look forward to being part of the conversations and inputting our views on more detailed proposals. We will also, of course, be engaging with our members to ensure we are fully representing your views and bringing the experience and expertise you have of running well governed schemes that are focused on good outcomes for members. In the meantime, there are plenty of other areas we are working on, including preparing a GDPR Code of Conduct for schemes and Trustees. Our DC Committee is preparing for the DC Conference on May 3rd and we have just had our Annual Investment Conference on the 22nd - read the full report on page 30. We also continue to be active on a European level with PensionsEurope. One of the areas we have been working on has been the new reporting requirements for pension schemes being instigated by the European Central Bank. Together with PensionsEurope, we have engaged with the ECB since the proposals were first mooted. The final regulations have now been published. These are much more palatable than those first announced and the ECB has taken on board many of the concerns we expressed. As a result, fewer schemes will have to report and the amount of data to be reported has been reduced. It will still be significant for Irish schemes who will have to have their data collated and reported by the Central Bank of Ireland. We will provide further details and analysis in due course. I do hope you enjoy this edition of the Magazine, our first of 2018, and look forward to seeing you at some of our upcoming events. Peter Fahy IAPF Chairperson
