solution must be creative, realistic and be good for
all. The solution must be created and delivered with
passion and commitment. This is a people issue - not
just a pension problem. And the pensions industry in
Ireland needs to lead the change, inspire all the decision
makers to partake in the change and create and deliver
the best solution.
There was nothing new in the Apple iPhone when it
hit the market in 2007. Apple just saw how to create
a solution in ways that everyone would want - phone,
camera, email, internet and more in one easy to use
device. One solution more powerful than all the
individual components.
Ireland is now faced with a similar opportunity to the
one that Apple had just a few short years ago – how to
we create a post retirement solution for the future that
employees, employers and governments will want? All
the individual pieces together in one powerful delivery.
Bob Dylan was right. The times have changed
dramatically since I first joined the pensions industry in
1980. There are a lot more changes needed and ahead.
We can all be part of the exciting, proactive solution
required now. As Dylan sang in his 1964 classic, “the
chance won’t come again”!
